The Gideons International — A Word about Finance
“Moreover it is required in stewards that a man be found faithful.” — 1 Corinthians 4:2
Stewardship and faithfulness are two key concepts that have characterized the Gideon ministry since its inception in 1899. A faithfulness to God's call and direction in developing and implementing a ministry that consistently maintains its singular objective of "winning others for Christ"...and a stewardship that is focused on properly using the resources committed to it.
An effective example of these two key characteristics is especially evident in the handling of the monies received from God's people by The Gideons International. In the association's fiscal year ending May 31, 2012, it received $128.8 million in total income of which $120.7 million was directly contributed for the purchase and placement of Bibles and New Testaments in over 90 languages in the 194 countries where the Gideons are organized. Hundreds of thousands of individuals were impacted for Christ; some of these testimonies are published in our bi-monthly International Update.
Cabinet Responsibilities (Our Board of Directors)
The International Cabinet (an elected, volunteer board) has the overall responsibility for the fiscal budget of The Gideons International. The Finance Committee (a standing committee of the board) chaired by an elected International Treasurer monitors the finances of the association meeting three (3) times annually as well as reporting at each meeting of the cabinet—three (3) times annually.
Independent Auditors
Additionally, The Gideons International annually engages an independent auditing firm which performs an audit of the financial statements of the association in accordance with auditing standards generally accepted in the United States of America. Copies of the audited financial statements along with the auditors report are provided to the Finance Committee and the International Cabinet for review and acceptance. An audited financial statement is available upon request to members of the association, donors (non-Gideons), churches and other supportive institutions, as well as to individuals or institutions who have expressed a desire to participate in the distribution of Bibles and New Testaments through the work of the association.
Financial Statements
The Gideons International is committed to a trustworthy and faithful stewardship of all monies given to the association, thus we are pleased to post the 2011 and 2012 Audited Financial Statement of The Gideons International.
