Saint Martin Is Opened As Country Number 200

The Gideons International is pleased to announce that Saint Martin, located in the Caribbean, is the 200th country organized by The Gideons International.

This country was opened with the help of local churches, as pastors recommended Christian business and professional men and their wives with a passion to see God’s Word spread on this resort island.

The new camp is located in the capitol city, Marigot. The island of Saint Martin is shared between Saint Martin (a collectivity of France) and Saint Maarten (a constituent of Netherlands). The Gideons previously organized in Sint Maarten in 1960.

The population of the country is about 36,000. Its economy is driven mostly by tourism, with more than 1 million tourists annually. The potential for Scripture distribution is estimated to be 6,000 Scriptures.

Following a church presentation in the Netherlands portion of the island, a pastor inquired about the possibility of organizing in Saint Martin. After contacting other pastors and securing names of potential members, it was obvious they wanted to extend this service for Christ and join The Gideons. Some of the men brought their wives, who also joined the ministry of The Gideons International.

Please pray for these new Gideons and Auxiliary as they begin to distribute and place God’s Word in the many luxury hotels on the island, as well as the schools, universities and medical facilities. Pray also for open doors and open hearts as Scriptures are distributed and the Gospel is personally shared.

“Thanks for being faithful to pray for the remaining few countries where the Gideons are not organized,” said Craig Warner, executive director of The Gideons International. “God is continuing to bless His Word by honoring those prayers.”
